From a letter written by Kathryn Zapp Bishop, dated
12/16/1987: "We were good friends in spite of her hostility to
the church. Her father, Mr. Beach, was married twice. His first wife
died and when his 2 girls were grown, he married again. He was
incapacitated and his 2 girls kept him and his next wife on
condition that the kids be raised Catholic. I have been in their
house and heard her complain against the church, but she had to go
as long as she was being kept. There was Kathryn, Clara, and
Margaret, I only know the first two. Kathryn moved to the city."
